York is full of interesting little passageways made popular in Mark Jones book "Snickelways of York". This one from Pavement leads down the side of the shoe shop to Lady Peckets Yard. Pavement may seem a strange name for a road but it was one of the first roads in York to be paved and the name has stuck. Lady Alice Peckett whose husband, John, owned the Golden Fleece Inn and was Lord Mayor of York around 1702.
