Early Morning Shadows on Dean Court Hotel

I couldn't resist these early morning shadows on the Dean Court Hotel in Duncombe Place. The shadows are cast by the trees around the Boer War memorial opposite.

Doors within the walls 15 - Side door St. Wilfred's

By comparison with the front door, the side door may seem a little plain. However, if it was considered by itself I am sure most would agree that it is in fact a fairly ornate door and out of the ordinary.

Doors within the walls 14 - St. Wilfred's Church

Having shown a photo of St Wilfred's a couple of days ago I had to include a closer look at the ornate doorway into the church.

York Dispensary - Duncombe Place

On your right as you pass along Duncombe Place towards the Minster is the office building of Gray's Solicitors. It is a rather fine looking building and if you look a little more closely you will see extra details indicating it having been used as the York Dispensary in the past.

St Wilfred's Church - Duncombe Place

As you walk down Duncombe Place towards the Minster allow your eyes to be drawn away from the Minster as you pass the stage door entrance of the theatre to allow yourself to look at this imposing Roman Catholic church.

St Wilfred's - Duncombe Place

This view of St Wilfred's is taken from the same place that the "Minster viewed over rooftops" photo was taken. The red brick building with the tall chimneys in the middleground is Grays' solicitors on the corner of Duncombe Place and Blake Street.

Boer War Memorial - Duncombe Place

I am continuing with the challenge that I set myself to find greenery within the city walls. This haven of green is situated next to the St. Michael le Belfrey church which prompted Chun See's comment about greenery that led me to challenge myself to find green areas in the city. The monument is set within a small park and is a memorial to those men from York that were killed in South Africa during the Boer War. Although a tranquil haven it has been the scene recently of problems with youngsters congregating during the evenings, drinking alcohol and defacing the memorial with graffiti.
