I am fairly certain that the most interesting doors in York are on Georgian Houses. This splendid example can be found at 17 Aldwark near the Merchant Taylors' Hall.

hi jollygreenp,
i can still remember the city walls and the york minister although we stayed one day only in york. we were then on a self-drive tour of england and north wales. on our way to york, we got lost because of some road diversion and ended up at otley. in york, we stayed in a b&b near lendal park and that day being a sunday, we attended the 4pm evensong service at york minister. we like york.
Hi yg,
thanks for dropping by. Otley is a nice little detour, I was there last week with the garden club. We did a short coach trip to visit the garden centre just on the outskirts of Otley and also had a wander round the town. It was a very enjoyable day. You are obviously someone who likes to travel, I have been following your recent blog items of your visit to Melbourne. Reading your blogs I get the feeling that a lot of our interests overlap with interests in walking, visiting wildlife reserves and parks and travel.
York is a city that many people try and do in one day and wish that they had stayed a bit longer, I find that your home town of Singapore is one where the usual stopover of three nights that a lot people do is not enough for me and I always try and spend at least a week there when I visit. The one exception to that was when I was working in Malaysia I would finish early on a Friday morning and catch a flight down to Singapore as early as possible and spend the day there before my flight back to the UK or back to Switzerland at about midnight.
